1 Part of Line / Easy to Display
As probably most of you know this Ronan is part of an Annihilator line that i am collecting. I have already pre-ordered 4 of them and 3 of those per-order are already here. So Ive already unboxed my black version gladiator, second is this Ronan and Nova is still in the box. Only thing left is Silver Surfer and the black surfer version. Quasar has been revealed but pre-order isn’t open yet. I believe pre-order will open once prototype is revealed. And as for Beta Ray Bill, no clues yet. Anyway this is a museum line which i love because of ease of display because of the small base. I do hope they make future lines in the future which still has museum type bases. 2 Costume
So I’m not really big into collecting X-men pieces. But i do collect them but not that aggressively. Anyway always wanted a Ronan statue but just don’t like his usual costume that much. Now this one is a bit different since he isn’t wearing a coat or cape or something which kinda changes his vibe a bit which i love. Cant see myself owning another Ronan statue, i think this one is already pretty good.
3 Build Quality / Price
Next is the build quality. I think this one is produced as the same factory as my magneto on throne. Oddly this doesn’t have any molding issues. I mean not very obvious ones. So id say very minimal molding issues. Which is great. The base isn’t hollow which is very heavy. I think that’s to accommodate the weight of the hammer and arm. Since its a bit front heavy. Great engineering to prevent it from leaning. Although i did encounter some problems with the cape not fitting in properly at the back. But was easily fixed by a heat blower as you can see. Anyway this is actually a pretty big museum statue since Ronan is a big dude. But the price doesn’t really reflect it that much. This statue costs 950 USD. That’s pretty good for a big museum statue like this. I kinda don’t understand other studio overpricing museum statues.
4 Anatomy / Sculpt
Next is the sculpt. I really love it when characters have big muscles and lots of textures. And both of those are present in this statue. Like 90% of his costume has textures. And the armor areas like the boots, forearm and hands and the chest doesn’t have textures. Which kinda compliments the area without textures very well. It contrasts it real good. Next is the anatomy and in my opinion doesn’t seem to have any problem. He is well proportioned. Even if the other one has an opened mouth. This one is definitely smaller, probably to make it fit properly inside the hood. Since the other hood doesn’t fit. Speaking of hood, actually the hood switch out doesn’t fit well to the pegs below his neck. Didn’t bother fixing it since I’m not gonna use the switch out anyway. But I’m pretty sure the heat blower trick would work just fine.
5 Paint
I’m really a sucker for metallic paints. And I’m glad they used a metallic green on his armor. Which i really love. Their nova has a very black colors on it. Will consider having that repainted to compliment this greens on Ronan. But i kinda wished they use a different kind of gold to his armor. To make it pop. But that’s just probably nit picking. Also the armors are supposed to be silver, but the commissioner provided as an option to have it bronze since the statue looks better with bronze. Obviously i opted with bronze and no regrets so far. In case you are wondering this is what it looks like. Overall paint is ok. Even on the heads. Although i didn’t like the blue that was used. I still think it looks good overall. Gotta give credit to the open mouth as well since they added a wet or gloss effect.
